How That Became This

As is obvious, I haven’t posted any poems on here. The main reason for this is that I believe there exists some kind of natural law that considers any writing posted via internet to then be automatically “published” and therefore unpublishable anywhere else, (such as journals/literary magazines). But I have been writing consistently, aside from a few diversions here and there (primarily reading). Speaking of which, I’ve begun compiling what I consider to be an amazing summer reading list, and have put in an order for the first batch of poetry books last night—the act of which made me consider two things:

1) the amount of books that get printed each year and

2) the ecological and environmental devastation caused by destroying forests for paper (yeah, old news, I know).

That prompted me to do a little research and I found this: The Green Press Initiative; an awesome organization whose mission is to basically get the publishing industry to start making more Earth-conscious choices regarding their paper use, (such as using recycled paper or alternative fibers). I thought I would share this because sadly there are still a lot of book publishers out there who haven’t added their names to this growing list of participating companies who have already committed to make the change. I think as writers and readers it’s important to be aware of the ecological footprint we leave behind and support more sustainable ways of doing what we love.

Here are the keepers from a photo shoot I did for a friend last year. I like to occasionally explore artistic mediums other than words, and photography is a growing interest. I'm working on putting together another (much more experimental) photo project, so I'll hopefully have that up soon.
